Alban Mwendar (1964) a Kenyan with B.Ed. (1st class Hons) and MBA (University of Nairobi) degrees. He has worked for over 5 different corporate organizations in different capacities – for a total of 29 years. He is also a Certified Executive Coach.
He started off as a Management Trainee in Unilever Kenya (EAI) and grew over 8 years through the ranks as a Personnel Assistant – Industrial Relations, Factory Personnel Manager, Training & Development Manager, and Logistics Sourcing Manager. He moved onto British American Tobacco (BAT) where he worked as Head of Human Resources for 5 years, and was a member of the BAT (Kenya) Executive Committee. He then moved onto Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) in 2000 as the Group HR Director for 4 years, also on the Group’s Executive Committee. In addition to this, he has been the Group HR Director of East African Breweries Ltd (EABL), a member of the EABL Group Executive, and a Board member of Kenya Breweries Ltd for 7 years. After this, he was the Group HR Director of Kenya Airways Ltd from 2011 until May 2016.
In his working life, he has been exposed to international best practice in the HR function through various workshops, conferences and training sessions including a Negotiations programme at Harvard Law School. He has represented his employers at top level business meetings including a UK investors roundtable meeting co-chaired by the Kenyan and British Prime Ministers in London in September 2008 (as a member of the Kenyan Prime Minister’s delegation). In former times, he has served in senior capacities in various bodies e.g. in the Institute of HRM (Vice Chairman), Kenya Institute of Bankers (Vice Chairman), Board of Governors Alliance High School, Chairman – Methodist Guest House, Executive Council Member – Agricultural Society of Kenya, etc.
Currently, he is a Director on the Board of the African Banking Corporation Group, and a trustee of the Kenya Methodist University.
Alban’s passions include watching sports (rugby, soccer, athletics and motorsports), cooking and singing.
